Our Story

E & K. Kim are Australian authors, that have written fantasy & other genre books.
Both sisters were born in the 2000’s in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. They are siblings, that got the idea of writing their first book titled ‘Seeing Beings is Believing – A Hidden World of Mythical Creatures’ and published it in 2023. It was a combined effort writing the book for which they had started compiling ideas since 2019.

The Seeing Beings is Believing books they have published so far, revolve around the idea of a world of mythical creatures, that live in secret; separate to the human world. Each book contains stories about mythical creatures, featuring the journeys they go throughout their lives – whether good or bad. These stories interlink with one another, with some characters featuring in other stories or plot lines. Their books feature characters based around historical characters like Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Dracula/Vlad Tepes) or Cleopatra Philopator the last long ruling Pharoah of Egypt. They wanted to create a world of fantasy for other people like themselves.

Life & Author Career

Early life and family

Both sisters were born in the early 2000’s in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. They lived in Victoria for a duration of 6 years. In 2006 they moved to the Middle East, living in both Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, where their father worked for an airline catering company. After living there for a year, their mother left with them for Europe to live with relatives, where they also lived for the duration of one year. In 2009, they returned to Australia. E & K. Kim did not want to live overseas, unfortunately being young during that time frame they had no choice in the matter, neither did their mother, as it was their father that forced them to move to the Middle East. They believe that because of all of the travelling they had been exposed to – the only good thing that came of this; it allowed them to experience and gain interest in other cultures, countries etc.

At a young age both sisters were interested in anything to do with the fantasy genre, whether it be stories by the famous Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, Aesop’s Fables and other books well-known in Germany ‘Struwwelpeter’ (By Heinrich Hoffman) & ‘Max & Moritz’ (By Wilhelm Busch). E & K. Kim’s mother has a strong influence on their lives, the support of their mother instilled confidence and enthusiasm for storytelling.
In 2013 their mother suffered a stroke, caused by the stress of her ex-husband & the misdiagnosis she got from doctors when she was 47, E & K. Kim were both aged 13 & 9 at the time. E & K. Kim’s home life was complicated by their mother’s health problems and a strained relationship with their father. As soon as their mother had left Hospital after being there for many months, their father decided to go on a trip somewhere, leaving E & K. Kim alone with their mother. This made the sisters question their already fractured relationship to their father even more.

For a long time there had been a strained relationship between E & K. Kim’s parents, which caused a tension and by 2015 their mother who was their primary caregiver received a letter from their father’s lawyer. This caused long drawn out legal proceedings, causing life long damage and stress to E & K. Kim’s mental well being.

Since 2016 they have no longer been in contact/estranged from their father.

E & K. Kim believe that during this time frame (especially 2013-2016), life in general was difficult for both of them. The most important years of their childhood/teenage years for them were unhappy because of this. That is why to cope with those hard times they wrote stories, that allowed them to escape the stresses of life.

From 2016 onwards life slowly began to make sense for them again.

They now live on a farm with their animals.

Publishing Seeing Beings is Believing

In 2022, the sisters had finished their draft; they had hoped to find a publisher, because they thought that they would only be able to publish their work through one. They found a publisher. After a year of disappointment with the publisher, they parted ways. The authors of the Seeing Beings is Believing book series were fortunate enough not to lose the copyrights/ownership of the book, like other authors had that went with different publishers. E & K. Kim found a way to publish their book the same year and went on to publish a sequel in 2024 titled ‘Seeing Beings is Believing – Rise of the Sisterhood’. Both sisters wished they would have found out earlier on that the publisher was something that is called a vanity publisher (A publisher that makes the author pay for their own work to be published) vs. a traditional publisher (A publisher that pays all the costs involved for the manuscript to be edited, proofread, typesetted, designed, printed and distributed). E & K. Kim believe that every author should if they can; publish themselves. In turn E & K. Kim believe any author would earn more royalties by doing this.

‘Seeing Beings is Believing – A Hidden World of Mythical Creatures’ - was written by the authors and published in 2023, featuring interlinking stories, each unique in their own right including famous characters Cleopatra Philopator, the Grim Reaper etc.
‘Seeing Beings is Believing – Rise of the Sisterhood’ - was released in 2024, featuring similar elements like the first book, same characters and some new ones like Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes).

They are currently working on a third book for the Seeing Beings is Believing book series.
E & K. Kim published a German version of both of their books titled ‘Wesen sehen ist glauben – Eine verborgene Welt von Mystischen Kreaturen’ and ‘Wesen sehen ist glauben – Der Aufstieg der Schwesternschaft’.

Religion
E & K. Kim don’t believe in Religion as it is portrayed; this goes for every religion still practised today. They believe that nature should be respected. They deeply believe that respect for oneself and others is the most important, this they have also stated/written together with another author in a book they have recently published, ‘Poems of Life & Faith’.
Influences
E & K. Kim were heavily influenced by tales by the Brothers Grimm, especially (Red Riding Hood, Hansel & Gretel, Frau Holle etc.)
Hans Christian Andersen – (The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Matchstick Girl etc.)
Aesop’s Fables – (The Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, The Tortoise and the Hare etc.)
Struwwelpeter – (Heinrich Hoffman)
Max & Moritz – (Wilhelm Busch)
Fantasmagoria – A book that features stories about the mythology of the past/creatures like vampires, wizards, fairies, werewolves, shapeshifters etc.
J. K. Rowling – (Author of the Harry Potter book series) – the most famous children’s fantasy book series. (E & K. Kim are inspired by her because she was an author that wrote a unique story, had different ways of making her story interesting, inspiring many other generations of people. E & K. Kim grew up under similar circumstances like J. K. Rowling, so that makes them even more inspired by her).
